this has nothing to do with pi lol. that symbol represents approximation, which means you round to the nearest whatever of the answer you got. So, if your answer was 4.5213 and you have to round to the nearest 100th, it'd be 4.52. so.... 4.5213 ~ 4.52. Basically, your area might need approximating.
