Being put on Public Display?

Me and my freind teenagers were caught shpliftling from a store. When we went before the judge he said we would learn nothing from jail - But the better solution was for 4 Saturdays we both could stand in front of the store (this store has Security Guards they would be allowed to handcuff us together or separate and we had to wear a T-shirt that said this is what will happen if you shoplift from this store - (Thats the best part the T-shirt it is really really big oversized) we have to stay there for 8 hrs - (every couple of hours were given 15 minutes to go to the rest room or what ever) and our parents agreed to this and after the 4 saturdays we have 30 days to write a 5 page essay to the court on what we learnt. Tomorrow will be our 3rd Saturday. The worst part of it is being handcuffed. has anyone ever had a punishment similar.
