Rapid day to day alternative to a Civic Type R?

My mate has a mondeo st (the v6 version). He got it 6 months old for �17,000 with delivery miles on it, and god its rapid.Downside is the mpg if you heavy on the loud pedal and the next road tax of about 400 bucks.
